One Killed in School Raid, 16 Laptops Stolen at Karibaribi Secondary

Tragedy struck on Wednesday night at Karibaribi Secondary School, where a night guard lost his life and his colleague suffered severe head injuries during a heinous theft.

The assailants, a gang of six armed with machetes, targeted the administration block, forcibly breaking all main doors to gain access. The stolen loot included 16 laptops.

The incident unfolded in close proximity to the Karibaribi police station, approximately 100 meters away, prompting criticism from residents and the school community who lament the delayed response by law enforcement. Concerns were raised about the apparent lack of swift action to thwart the criminals’ attack.

Hosea Irungu, the chairman of the school’s Board of Management (BOM), expressed his dismay, noting, “It is sinister how the thugs, who seemed not to be in a hurry, executed their mission without police acting.” The community’s frustration with the perceived inefficiency of the police response was palpable.

Serah Musa, the widow of the slain guard, shared the heartbreaking details of her husband’s dedication to supporting their family. He worked at another school during the day and served as a night watchman to provide for their five children.

Musa passionately appealed to the government to apprehend those responsible for her husband’s death, underscoring that he was the sole breadwinner for their family.

In a parallel incident nearby, a police officer thwarted a break-in at his residence by fatally shooting two suspected thugs. The remaining two accomplices managed to escape, albeit with gunshot wounds.

The incidents underscore the growing challenges faced by both citizens and law enforcement in ensuring the safety and security of communities.
