The National Youth Service (NYS) has declared a nationwide recruitment drive for male and female volunteers, as revealed on Wednesday via its social media platforms. The recruitment period is set to span from February 5 to February 9, 2024.

Special consideration will be given to orphans who meet the qualification criteria, requiring them to furnish adequate documentary evidence, such as parents’ death certificates or burial permits. Persons with disabilities are also urged to participate in the recruitment exercise at their respective sub-counties and centers, provided they can endure the demanding physical training, according to NYS.

The Kenya National Youth Service has officially announced that the recruitment drive will be conducted nationwide, emphasizing its outreach to the general public.

Prospective candidates seeking entry into the service must meet the set threshold specified by NYS. Essential requirements include Kenyan citizenship, residency in the respective sub-county of recruitment, and an age falling within the 18 to 24 years bracket. Additionally, applicants must have a minimum grade of D plain and above in KCSE.

During the recruitment drive, applicants are required to present their Original National Identity Card, academic certificates, and photocopies. Other mandatory prerequisites encompass a Good Conduct certificate, a willingness to undergo medical check-ups, and readiness for strenuous physical training.

Volunteers must express their readiness to provide voluntary service to the nation in any part of the Republic, as outlined by NYS. Successful candidates will undergo the NYS paramilitary course at NYS College, Gilgil, and NYSTTI Naivasha, with details specified in their respective calling letters.

NYS issues a stern warning against canvassing and engaging in fraudulent activities for entry into the service. Any form of corruption will result in automatic disqualification and may lead to prosecution, according to NYS management. Instances of such nature should be promptly reported to the Director-General at 020-2400129, as advised by the youth service.

In a directive from President William Ruto, NYS has been tasked with doubling the annual recruitment to 40,000, with 80% of the graduates joining national security services in subsequent recruitment drives for institutions such as the National Police Service (NPS), the National Intelligence Service (NIS), and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
