Nyanza Schools Where all Students Scored D in 2023 KCSE Exams

Protests have erupted in Nyanza as two schools express dissatisfaction with the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results, where all students received a grade of D.

Both Oruba Boys in Migori and Kowidi Secondary School in Homa Bay allege irregularities and insist that the reported scores are inaccurate.

On Wednesday, Oruba students took to the streets to voice their concerns, questioning the plausibility of 73 out of 75 students achieving a D grade.

They marched to the county education offices, seeking clarification and asserting that the results do not genuinely reflect their academic abilities.

Aloys Otieno, a student, emphasized the discrepancy, stating, “We want our results. What we have received is not our results.”

The students argued that their previous performance in internal and regional exams contradicts the surprising KCSE outcomes. According to Otieno, it is implausible for each student to receive a D grade.

Some students shared distressing stories of being ousted from their homes, desperately searching for their accurate results. Eldon Omondi, who received a D grade, lamented, “We cannot go back home. Some of us have been asked to go and bring our results. We wonder what we can tell our parents who are extremely disappointed in us. All we want is answers.”

Omondi, who had consistently scored above C plain in school exams, called for a review of the examination papers by the Education Cabinet Secretary. John Onyango, another student with a D grade, expressed fears about returning home after facing punishment from his parents.

At Kowidi Mixed Secondary School, all 30 candidates obtained an E in Mathematics and scored a D in KCSE. Principal Paul Okombo asserted that students were not graded in Physics despite sitting for the exam.

Okombo revealed their intention to file a complaint with the Kenya National Examination Council to address the perceived discrepancies.
