Nyandarua Teachers Disrupt Traffic, Demand Justice for Slain Colleague

On Wednesday morning, teachers in Nyandarua caused traffic disruptions as they protested the death of a colleague whose body had been mutilated and discarded in a dense bush.

A week after being initially reported missing, John Nginge, a teacher at Kahoka Primary School, was discovered deceased.

The teachers, under the leadership of Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Nyandarua branch representatives, lodged grievances regarding the pervasive insecurity that threatened their lives throughout the county.

While others rode boda bodas while bearing placards, some of the teachers wearing KNUT colors walked.

One of the teachers who spoke to the media further stated, “We condemn brutal murder and demand justice.”

Teachers lamented that unidentified individuals thwarted their efforts to advocate for a thorough investigation into Ngige’s demise. These individuals are accused of preventing an inquest into the death of the teacher.

To bring attention to the matter, the teachers who went on strike demanded that the Nyandarua Directorate of Criminal Investigations investigate the alleged homicide and increase countywide security.

Teachers from Nyandarua demanded further information regarding the demise of Ngige and the apprehension and arraignment in court of his murderers despite reportedly being fired by authorities.

Furthermore, they threatened DCI with additional demonstrations featuring parents and students if their complaints were not attended to.

Police reportedly initiated an investigation into the teacher’s death and promised to disclose a preliminary report, according to reports. The circumstances surrounding Ngige’s demise, including whether a postmortem was performed, remained unknown at this time.

Two months ago, a pastor who had vanished was discovered mutilated and discarded in a dam in Sasumwa Dam, Nyandarua, in a comparable incident.

Before his disappearance, an unidentified individual dialed the deacon’s phone number. His body was discovered a few meters from his residence two days later.
