Education CS George Magoha has announced that the school calendar will resume normal operations in January 2023.
Magoha stated on Monday at Mtihani House, while releasing the 2021 KCPE results, that the education sector was severely impacted during the pandemic period.
Due to the pandemic, the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations have been pushed back to 2021.
President Uhuru Kenyatta’s order on March 14, 2020, had an impact on the national school calendar, with schools reopening for the second term in January 2021, except for Grade 4 and Form 1.
“I want to thank the president for being bold enough to ‘bite the bullet’ when everybody was singing the opposite song,” Magoha said.
President Uhuru had lifted the nationwide dusk to dawn curfew, allowing students to return to school while still adhering to the Ministry of Health’s protocol on Covid-19.
Dr Julius Jwan, Principal Secretary for Early Learning and Basic Education, stated that he was impressed by centre managers, invigilators, and security personnel who confirmed that the candidates wrote their exam papers in accordance with strict health protocols in order to limit the spread of the virus.

In 2020, the council registered 1,225,507 candidates in 28,316 KCPE examination centers, compared to 1,191,752 candidates in 28,467 centers.
He also confirmed that no Covid-19 ill candidates were reported during the exercise.
