Noonkopir Girls School Closure Not Related to Lesbianism, Principal Clarifies

The closure of Noonkopir Girls in Kajiado on Thursday was not due to lesbianism, but rather indiscipline among a group of girls, according to Principal Florence Kimeu.

After an urgent meeting of the school’s board of management that lasted until Friday night, Principal Kimeu stated that some girls had threatened to cause chaos if they were not released from the school.

These girls had completed their exams and felt that they should be allowed to go home before the schools closed for the term. Principal Kimeu denied claims made by parents and students that lesbianism was rampant in the school, and she also dismissed allegations that men had broken into the school.

Regarding claims that some teachers were favoring alleged lesbian students by not taking action against them, Principal Kimeu called these accusations fabricated lies aimed at harming her administration. She emphasized that the school had students from both Christian and Muslim faiths and that they respected their diverse religious backgrounds.

The county director of education, Dr Martin Cheruyot, who was present at the board meeting, supported Principal Kimeu’s statements, stating that his investigation revealed that the crisis at the school had nothing to do with lesbianism. He also confirmed that there was no evidence to support the claim that a student had been beaten up and her private parts damaged by a group of alleged lesbians after she reported their activity.

Dr Cheruyot further stated that the school was secure for students who wanted to learn, with the matron, principal, and some teachers present full-time. However, one student from the school was found at her aunt’s house in Kitengela, as she did not return home after the school was closed on Thursday.

Her mother explained that her daughter had no transportation money and had gone to her aunt’s house because they were required to return to school the following Wednesday.

The school administration has set the schedule for students to return to school, with Form One students expected on Monday and Form Two, Three, and Four students reporting on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, respectively. All students are required to be accompanied by their parents, according to the school principal.

Principal Kimeu reiterated that the closure of the school was not related to lesbianism, but rather to the indiscipline of some students who had threatened to cause harm to the school property. She emphasized that the school was committed to providing a safe and conducive learning environment for all students, regardless of their backgrounds or orientations.

The county director of education, Dr Cheruyot, supported these statements, stating that the school was secure and disciplinary action would be taken against those students who had caused trouble.
