No Additional Levies for Secondary School Students as Over 4,600 Students Benefit from Sh1.2 Billion in School Fees.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has assured parents with children in secondary schools that they will not face additional levies. He cautioned school principals against imposing any unauthorized charges in addition to the recommended fees.
Machogu conveyed this message during the 2024 KCB Scholars flag-off event at Karen Leadership Centre in Nairobi on Wednesday. Speaking at the event, Machogu declared, “The boarding fees charged in public secondary schools will remain unchanged in 2024.”

CS Machogu emphasized that schools would receive funds based on accurate enrollment data submitted through the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS).
The CS emphasized the government’s understanding of the challenges parents are currently facing and the need to avoid further burdens. “Parents are having challenges now, and we don’t want to subject them to more suffering,” he added.

Highlighting the economic hardships faced by parents, Machogu stated that it would not be prudent to increase fees. He acknowledged the 70% enrollment rate of students who sat the 2023 KCPE exams in secondary schools nationwide and assured that efforts would be made to achieve a 100% transition.

During the event, Machogu announced government scholarships through the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation and Equity Group Foundation, as well as 9,000 Elimu Scholarships awarded across all 47 counties to needy and vulnerable learners who scored 280 marks and above in the 2023 KCPE examinations.
