National Exams In Insecure Areas Will Proceed As Scheduled – Magoha.
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has assured parents and candidates in insecure areas that the government has put measures in place to ensure national exams take place as planned.
Prof Magoha said Monday at Kahuhia Girls High School in Murang’a County, where he commissioned a new classroom, that adequate security officers have been deployed in volatile areas to ensure the candidates’ safety.
The CS denied reports that the government planned to postpone exams in some parts of the country, particularly the North Eastern, Coast, and Rift Valley.
“I want to calm our candidates so they can sit their exams in peace. Ignore rumours that there will be problems in some parts of the country. The government has taken firm action to ensure the exams are administered well. We have enough security,” Prof Magoha said.
Candidates for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) will rehearse on Friday and take the exams from Monday to Wednesday next week.
Practicals for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) began on Monday, while the main examination will begin on March 14 and end on April 1, 2022.
Prof Magoha stated that security agencies have given the examination process a clean bill of health, and that monitoring will continue to ensure that it does not leak.
“We know that the cartels that specialise in selling fake examination materials are at work. If you want to do business with them, it is up to you,” he added.
According to the CS, the containers containing examination materials are guarded around the clock, and any papers in circulation being passed off as copies of the test papers are fake.
The CS stated that the change of government following the general election in August will have no effect on educational programs.
Some stakeholders have criticized the CBC, and a parent has filed a court case seeking to have it stopped. Prof Magoha has extended the deadline for the construction of CBC 6,500 classrooms to Friday, claiming that the national completion rate is 75%.
