Murang’a County to Fund Top Students’ Fees in all Public Day Schools.
The Murang’a County Government has announced plans to sponsor the school fees of the top ten students in every public day secondary school, starting January next year.
Governor Irungu Kang’ata revealed this initiative, stating that it aims to reward high-performing students and motivate them to excel academically.
Many students in these schools come from underprivileged backgrounds, making this program a significant step in addressing educational inequalities.
Kang’ata emphasized that the initiative targets bright students who face financial challenges in joining national and extra-county schools.
He explained that the program would enable the best performers to pursue their studies without disruptions, fostering a competitive spirit among learners.
The governor highlighted the impressive performance of local day schools such as Karega and Mukangu, which have consistently sent students to universities. This success inspired the county to further support learners in these schools.
“We want to ensure the best performers in our day schools get motivated and also pursue their studies without challenges.
Continuation of Bursaries and Scholarships
In addition to the new initiative, Kang’ata assured that existing bursary and scholarship programs by the county government would remain in place. These programs aim to ensure that students from poor families continue their education without hindrances.
Governor Kang’ata outlined various measures to improve healthcare in Murang’a County. Plans are underway to employ more nurses and build additional health facilities across different wards to reduce congestion and enhance service delivery.

For instance, the Mukuyu Dispensary is set to open in January, accompanied by the deployment of new healthcare personnel to other dispensaries.
To address frequent power outages in health facilities caused by unpaid bills, the county has initiated a solarisation project.
Kenneth Matiba Hospital has already been equipped with solar panels, and the county plans to extend this initiative to other health centres to ensure uninterrupted services.
Similarly, street lights in local trading centres and towns will also be solarised to improve security and reduce power disruptions.
Festive Season Message and Recognitions
As the festive season approached, Kang’ata urged residents to celebrate responsibly and safeguard their families, particularly children, from engaging in criminal activities.
He extended festive wishes to all Murang’a residents, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful holiday period.

“The gifts and awards are a way to appreciate and celebrate everyone’s efforts in enhancing the county’s service delivery,” said the governor.
