Church leaders and clergy members from Murang’a and surrounding counties now have an opportunity to pursue advanced theological education following the launch of the School of Divinity at Pioneer International University (PIU).

The new faculty, officially introduced on Tuesday, aims to serve individuals interested in theology-related courses.

The institution will begin by offering a Postgraduate Diploma in Transformational Church Administration and Leadership. This course targets church leaders seeking to improve the governance and operational efficiency of religious organizations.

According to the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Gideon Maina, the program is designed to integrate synodality principles—such as inclusivity, collaboration, and shared decision-making—into practical church management.

Prof. Maina emphasized that the course is a timely innovation tailored to equip clergy and church leaders who are increasingly overwhelmed by evolving needs.

He pointed out that the relevance of theology in higher education has never been more urgent due to ongoing technological advancements, cultural shifts, and complex global dynamics.

He explained that PIU’s School of Divinity is a response to the demand for spaces where faith and intellect converge, and where spiritual insight addresses modern societal issues.

Grounded in Church Teachings and Community Needs

The Vice Chancellor noted that the programme is anchored in church doctrine and is intended to nurture community building, spiritual development, and advocacy for social justice.

He added that it will empower clergy with leadership capabilities necessary for conflict resolution within their congregations and communities. Furthermore, the program promotes shared governance and respects the role of every church member.

Prof. Maina highlighted the continued significance of theological inquiry despite the evolving academic landscape. He stated that divinity schools remain essential in preserving moral and ethical conversations that go beyond data-driven analysis to explore deeper human experiences.

PIU Chancellor Peter Munga stressed the importance of ongoing education for clergy, citing the growing complexities they face in their roles. He noted that the school of divinity will offer a convenient solution for church leaders in nearby regions by eliminating the need to travel far to access quality theological education.

Munga further remarked that through transformational leadership, church administration can significantly contribute to national progress.
