Nabii Nabwera, a legislator from the constituency of Lugari, shared a not-so-light moment as he described the difficulties facing schools in his constituency.

When the education committee met with Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia, Nabwera lamented the reoccurring problems in schools.

Nabwera cited Mufutu Secondary School, whose principal is missing.

“The principal’s absenteeism has even led to strikes but nothing is being done. That makes me look bad as the area MP,” Nabwera said.

At Bishop Njenga Girls, according to Nabwera, the Commission transferred a school principal who oversaw an average score of 8.9 points and replaced them with a principal whose prior school had an average score of 3.4 points.

“At Kivaywa High TSC didn’t want to believe us, the principal was interdicted after causing the death of several watchmen,” he said.

Macharia requested that the legislator meets with the Commission to present his concerns.

“I may not have those details. We are very clear if a school continues on the decline, principals are served a warning,” Macharia said.

The Vice-Chairman of the Committee, Malava MP Malulu Injendi, asked TSC to guarantee that locals are given priority whenever positions are filled in order to ensure that individuals who are hired represent the face of Kenyans and to ensure that no regions are left out of the critical process.

“I would like to inform my fellow parliamentarians that this process has got some political implications hence it should be handled with care so that whatever recommendations we come up with as a committee are accepted by the entire house,” said Injendi.
