Most KCPE Candidates Got Between 200 To 299 Marks
The majority of candidates who took the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam received between 200 and 299 marks.
According to the results released on Monday by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, 47% of the candidates scored between 200 and 399, while 25% scored between 300 and 399.
Only 0.9 percent received more than 400 points, while another 0.1 percent received less than 100 points.
Six of the 14 best candidates were female, with female candidates outperforming their male counterparts in English and Swahili.
“Male candidates performed slightly better than their female counterparts in Kenyan Sign Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies & Religious Education,” stated Prof. Magoha.
A total of 1,214,031 candidates took the exam across the country, with 610,384 (50.28 percent) being boys and 603,647 (49.72 percent) being girls.

Furthermore, the CS stated that all candidates, including those who were found to have irregularities and were given zero points in those subjects, will be admitted to various high schools.
“All of the children will transit to high school, you’ll ask why yet some were caught colluding but the law says that if a child is found colluding in primary school for that subject they get zero, but they will pay for it,” said Magoha.
He also announced that 9,000 needy students from slums and semi-arid areas will receive Form One Elimu Scholarships to cover their education costs through Form Four.

“Already the ministry has put in place measures to ensure a selection exercise is conducted soonest and I dare say that within two weeks I’ll be wanting to know whether it is complete or not,” he said.
