More Sports And Games To Be Implemented In CBC – Cyrus Oguna.According to government spokesman Col (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna, implementing the Competency-Based Curriculum is a difficult challenge.He emphasized that co-curricular activities will be incorporated into the system to help students develop their abilities as they progress through the grades.“More indoor and outdoor sports and games will be implemented in the CBC as provided for,” the government official said yesterday during a meeting that mainly focused on education.Mr Oguna, however, advised Kenyans to swallow the bitter pill and accept the curriculum introduced to phase out the 8-4-4 system in order to be on level with the rest of the world.“We must be willing to roll up our sleeves and stick our hands in the mud.” But, all is not lost, he said. Teachers have been trained to encourage parents and children to improvise the available materials to cut costs.He added that Kenyan teachers have been taught to prepare students to compete effectively on a global scale. This he said will help  youngsters to obtain sufficient skills and develop their gifts, allowing for exploration.Mr. Oguna went on to say that students in junior secondary schools will be taught how to care for both the young and the aged.“Students transitioning to Junior High School under the Competency-Based Curriculum will study in day schools and not boarding schools. The Junior High Schools will however be domiciled in existing secondary schools and not primary schools.The government has also begun teacher training, which began on April 25 and will complete on Friday, according to the spokeswoman.Also Read:“Training of teachers will enable them to manage Grade 5 students transitioning to Junior High in January 2023.
