Mombasa Holiday Mentorship Program Offers Form Four Students KSh150 Lunch Money, KSh250 Bursary Daily
The Governor of Mombasa, Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir, has initiated a new program aimed at mentoring Form Four students during school holidays. The program was launched recently, and the first cohort will include 1,800 students during the two-week break in April.
The main objective of this program is to keep the students engaged in productive activities, such as motivational talks and training sessions in useful skills like first aid certification.
Governor Nassir has emphasized the importance of investing in the youth, saying that it is an investment in the future of the county. The students will also receive KSh150 for their fare and lunch via mobile money payments, and an additional KSh250 will be deposited in a bursary fund to help clear their second-term school fees.
The Governor has urged parents and guardians to support the initiative by ensuring that their children participate in the program.
Nassir has expressed his commitment to keeping the next generation in school, stating that he wants to work together with parents to ensure that their children are safe and productively engaged during school holidays.
The program is a pilot initiative that will be monitored for effectiveness, and the county government will evaluate the impact on the students’ academic performance.
The hope is that it will provide a model for other counties to follow, helping to keep students engaged in educational and productive activities during their school holidays.
