MoE Addresses New Placement Exam for Primary Schools & JSS Teacher Changes
The Ministry of Education has officially denied rumors about the development of a new primary school placement examination.
Contrary to reports suggesting the imminent introduction of the Kenya Primary Placement Examination with a revised criterion for student placement, the Ministry, through its official channels, clarified that no such examination is in the pipeline.
The alleged launch date of November this year has been labeled as false, and the Ministry assured that the current system would persist.

Additionally, the Ministry refuted a misleading circular claiming a significant shift of Grade 9 under the competency-based curriculum to secondary schools.
This purported change would have impacted Junior Secondary School teachers, necessitating their relocation from primary to high schools to handle grades 9 through 12.
The fake circular also advocated for a survey to assess content areas for secondary schools and colleges, emphasizing the urgency to prevent further curriculum distortion.
The suggestion included considering a cluster of schools, including national, extra county, and county schools, to facilitate the transition.

This development coincides with the Ministry of Education’s ongoing transition of Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) learners to Junior Secondary School, guided by the 2023 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) results released by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
The results, accessible to school principals and parents through the KNEC portal, prompted the recommendation from KNEC for headteachers and principals to ensure timely registration of students for the upcoming KPSEA tests, with the deadline set for March 29, 2024.
