Missing Grade Six Student Found Dead Inside Classroom Ceiling, School Closed
Moigoiywet Primary School in Trans Nzoia County has been indefinitely Closed after the discovery of a Grade 6 student’s decomposed body in a classroom ceiling.
The incident came to light when pupils, returning to school on Monday, detected a disturbing odor in the classroom.
Having gone missing in November after completing the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) examinations, the student’s lifeless body was found by concerned classmates who promptly informed their teacher.

The head teacher, Douglas Amadi, confirmed the incident, stating that despite being aware of the child’s disappearance, her parents had failed to report it to the police.
In response to this tragic event, the school, after consultations with stakeholders, decided to close temporarily for investigations. The school management, cognizant of the emotional impact on the students, arranged counseling sessions to help them cope with the trauma before reopening.
While local law enforcement initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death, no suspects had been apprehended at the time of reporting.

The deceased student’s body was transferred to Kitale County Referral Hospital for autopsy, allowing the family time to prepare for her burial.
In light of this incident, the Department of Child Protection in Kenya emphasizes the immediate reporting of missing children, waiving the traditional 24-hour waiting period for minors.
“Missing children cases heavily rely on the time factor for the successful return of a child,” the department highlights on its website.
