Ministry probes Naivasha High School multiple student strikes
The Ministry of Education has launched an investigation into a series of strikes at Naivasha High School.
On Sunday, students at the Naivasha-based institution went on a rampage, breaking windows before being sent home for the third time in less than three months.
Mr Bernard Chirchir, the Naivasha Sub-County director of education, said the strike was led by Form Three students who did not want to sit an exam.
He stated that Education officials were forced to bring in investigators to determine the root cause of recent disturbances that threaten to derail the school’s and its students’ future.
Chirchir noted that they are also becoming overly concerned, given that a new Principal was only appointed to the school two weeks ago adding that a board meeting will be held on Friday to discuss some of the issues raised by students.
“The school has become troublesome. With the change of administration, we thought the situation would be contained but we have just seen a repeat of the same old problem,” he said, adding that parents are also frustrated by the disciplinary issues at the institution.
In the most recent incident, students poured onto the streets of Naivasha before being forced back to school by police.
The school was closed indefinitely again in January 2021 after protesting students set fire to 19 mattresses inside one of the dorms. The fire was linked to battles for supremacy between Form Four and Form Three students.

Initial investigations revealed a thriving and profitable drug trade. Some of the students are said to be purchasing “KDF” cakes, which are laced with unspecified drugs, making a killing for sellers who are fellow students.
