The education system has actively reduced the number of learning areas, specifically lowering lower primary learning areas from 9 to 7 and upper primary learning areas from 10 to 8. For Junior Secondary School (JSS) students, the subjects have been decreased from 14 to 9.

Additionally, the new format eliminates the option of an optional learning area for JSS, resulting in a reduction of overall classes per week from 45 to 41. The new structure will take effect in January 2024.
