A number of schools in Migori County have been placed on the spot for allegedly sabotaging the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination, which is aimed at students aged 15 and up.
Rapogi Boys’ Secondary School in Uriri is one of the schools that has been targeted.
According to Migori County Director of Public Health Kennedy Ombogo, health officers sent to give students the COVID-19 vaccination jab on Friday were thwarted.
He stated that the school only allowed the health officers access to the institution over the weekend, during which time they were able to administer the vaccine to only 220 of the school’s over 1500 students.
Ombogo claims that, despite government directives, some of the teachers at the school are not vaccinated, exposing the students to the risk of contracting COVID-19.
He also warned the teachers that sabotaging government exercises is a crime punishable by law.

Meanwhile, the Migori County Department of Health is targeting 122,000 people with the vaccine during the ten-day Rapid Response Initiative (RRI).
It has so far administered the vaccine to 144,015 people in Migori county, out of a target of over 560,000.
