Apkorio residents in Nandi County are in disbelief after a 58-year-old man allegedly beat his two sons to death after they were caught stealing at a neighboring homestead.
Benjamin Ipara, a father of 13 children, is accused of attacking his two sons on Tuesday night after they returned home.
Neighbors said the two brothers, Vincent Sakara, 21, and Nicholas Majanuri, 16, had fled their home for about two weeks due to a lack of food and frequent family disagreements.
Robinson Shikanga told The Nairobian that since Ipara’s divorce, the children have been left to fend for themselves, which is why the two brothers went out to look for food in the neighbourhood.
Residents apprehended the two brothers a kilometer from their home on Tuesday after they were caught stealing food.
Shikanga claimed that Ipara, enraged by his sons’ actions, locked them inside their home and began punishing them.
“As he was beating the boys, they let out loud screams which attracted those who were close by. When we reached the scene, we found the old man raining blows and kicks on his sons inside the kitchen. One of them was lying unconscious on the floor,” he narrated.
The residents were able to intervene and save the duo from their enraged father’s wrath, but the 16-year-old was already dead from the sustained beatings.
“Good Samaritans took the other boy to Kobujoi health centre and were referred to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital for specialized treatment. He was pronounced dead on reaching the hospital,” stated Shikanga.
Sakara, who had taken the KCPE in 2021, died as a result of head, chest, and stomach injuries.
During the ensuing melee, Ipara escaped the enraged mob that was baying for his blood.
The 16-year-old boy was discovered dead on the floor, according to Nandi South Deputy County Police Commander John Owuoth.
He went on to say that the minor died as a result of serious internal injuries to the chest and stomach.
