Maikona High School Parents Demand Sacking of Five Teachers Over Alleged Corporal Punishment of 36 Students.

Learning at Maikona High School in North Horr, Marsabit County was disrupted on Monday, 15 July 2025 as parents protested demanding action against five teachers accused of corporal punishment to students.

According to the protesting parents, thirty-six students were seriously injured after being punished for allegedly not participating in post-event celebrations. The incident occurred after the students declined to celebrate a music competition victory because the school did not provide meals during the event.

TSC has confirmed that investigations are ongoing. Marsabit County TSC Director, Ali Hussein Abdi said an investigation team has been dispatched to the ground to assess the matter and report back.

“We have sent an investigation team to the ground comprising of the County Quality Assurance Officer, TSC Sub-County Director and County Director of Education so that they bring us the report,” he said. “Any one found guilty in this matter will be dealt with according to the laws.”

The school management declined to comment when asked.

TSC reiterated its commitment to uphold professional standards and ensure disciplinary measures in schools are in line with national education policy and legal frameworks.
