Magoha Warns Parents Against Keeping Form One students At Home Due To Lack Of School Fees.
Professor George Magoha, Cabinet Secretary for Education, has warned parents against keeping Form One students at home due to a lack of school fees.
Magoha stated that all public Day schools in the country were free, and that parents who could not afford to send their children to boarding schools should send them to the nearest Day school.
During a mop-up exercise in Isinya, Kajiado County, the CS revealed that the government is providing free secondary education in public day schools and that all a student needs is uniform because the fees are already covered.
“All education officials must mop-up all students and take them to the nearest day schools because they are absolutely free, the government has catered for free secondary education and all a child needs, is uniform. “he said.
He revealed that some parents were being devious and keeping their children at home under the guise of being unable to pay their fees.
Magoha directed education officials to conduct thorough background checks to ensure that only those in genuine need receive assistance.
The CS also instructed all school heads not to send home any form one student who arrives at school without paying their fees.
During the mop-up, Neema Nanjala, who scored 313 points in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination (KCPE) but had not yet started secondary school due to a lack of school fees, was taken to Kisaju Deepak School by the CS, who made sure she had the necessary uniform and books.
