The completion of Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms throughout the country is on track, with over 2,000 completed and 350 already commissioned by Education Ministry officials.
Prof George Magoha, Education Cabinet Secretary (CS), stated that the total completion rate of the 6,497 classrooms was at 70%, with contractors put on notice to ensure they meet the March 7th deadline.
The CS, who spoke while commissioning two CBC classrooms at Mangu High School in Juja Sub County, said Central and Nairobi Counties lagged behind, with Garissa, Mandera, and Wajir leading the way with 99 per cent, 94 per cent, and 90 per cent completion rates, respectively.
He stated that education officials will camp in counties that are making slow progress in order to meet the deadlines.
“This is good progress and we are ready for take-off now. Kiambu and Nairobi counties are lagging behind at 46% and over 50% respectively,” he said.

The CS also urged private secondary schools that want to implement the CBC to budget for and construct their own classrooms to accommodate Junior Secondary School students.
He also encouraged private primary schools in urban areas such as Nairobi, Kisumu, Nakuru, and Mombasa, where there are few secondary schools, to take advantage of the ongoing exercise, promising full government support.
On payment of contractors who completed the construction of the CBC classrooms, the CS assured them of prompt payment, warning that no contractor would be charged or their documents would be delayed.
