Magoha Proposes Establishment Of Approved Boarding Schools To Handle Student Discipline
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has proposed the establishment of approved boarding schools for indisciplined students who resort to arson to vent their frustrations.
Speaking at Mahiga Girls Secondary School in Nyeri, the CS stated that this could be an alternative to abolishing boarding schools or reintroducing caning in schools to deal with such cases.
“We have no issue with over 99 percent of our boarding schools in the country. However, we have witnessed serious indiscipline cases in under one percent of these Schools and can push the government to do away with boarding schools. We will come with other methods of handling the situation,” he said.
Magoha, on the other hand, stated that the government has no plans to abolish boarding schools but may establish special schools to serve as correctional facilities for errant students.
Mahogany assured candidates that the insecurity felt in various parts of the country would not deter them from sitting for their national examinations.
“The government will ensure that all candidates will sit for national examination no matter where they are. We are working closely with the Ministry of Interior, and they have assured of a return to normalcy in the volatile areas,” he stated.
Magoha expressed confidence that normalcy will be restored in the volatile areas before the exams.
He urged candidates not to panic as they prepare, stating that the fact that they were out of school for nine months due to the COVID-19 pandemic was taken into account when the papers were set.

“I want to assure you that exams will be fine, and they are not meant to kill you. Candidates should as well know that you cannot manage to capture everything taught. Furthermore, exams are not set from each and everything taught in class,” he said.
Meanwhile, the CS directed all contractors building Competence-Based Curriculum classrooms across the country to meet the March deadline.
