Magoha: Any President Wanting Me As CS Must Give Me Freedom
Prof. George Magoha, Cabinet Secretary for Education, now says he has enjoyed working under President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration because of the freedom his boss has given him.
While commenting on the ongoing dispute between embattled Kenyatta University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Paul Wainaina and the State over a plot of land, Prof. Magoha suggested that the university leader resign if he does not agree with the government’s decision.
“I respect my colleagues, we are different, but I am too proud. If I don’t agree with you, I just walk away, but if I agree with you, we agree till death. For example, this president, I will serve him till death, which is about three weeks’ time,” said Magoha.
He emphasized that President Kenyatta has granted him the freedom to exercise his powers as CS without interference, which he believes is critical for any future leader seeking his services.
“If somebody else wants my services, they will have to convince me that they will give me the same leeway that this president has given me to serve. Si mnaona ninawika na hakuna kitu inafanyika?,” he posed.
“I feel free. I have been given the freedom to do my work without interference.”

CS Magoha’s tenure as Education Minister has earned him a reputation as an abrasive, no-nonsense administrator.
Most notably, he led the country’s transition from the 8-4-4 curriculum to the CBC curriculum in the face of opposition from education stakeholders.
Magoha was stripped of hiring and firing authority late last year in an effort to protect the ministry’s human resources from his harsh leadership style.
