Magoha Addresses Concerns Regarding Next Term’s School Reopening

The Education Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha, has addressed parents’ worries regarding the upcoming academic term’s reopening dates.

On Thursday, September 1, while reviewing the construction and progress of the CBC classrooms in Nairobi, Magoha stated that the government will continue sponsoring all educational activities in schools despite the uncertainty of the new dates.

“I have been briefed that whenever the new term begins, the last stretch of government funds will be distributed,” he said.

The CS also asked parents to prioritize preparing their children for the November 2022 national exams.

Notably, he emphasized that the ministry is prepared to conduct the national exams notwithstanding the ongoing election-related activities in the country.

“All measures have been put in place to guarantee smooth operations. As we speak, the last assessment for the Grade 6 pupils is ongoing until September 9,” he explained.

Regarding the CBC curriculum and the transition of Grade 6 students to Junior Secondary Schools, Magoha has already extended the deadline for students to choose their schools from August 30 to September 10.

According to the CS, the general elections that completed on August 9 and the subsequent activities forced the postponement.

In addition, he urged elementary and secondary institutions to permit students with fee arrears to complete their studies.

“I also hope that the poorest of the poor students in boarding schools will be allowed into schools without prejudice,” Magoha added.

Previously, he had instructed school administrators to report parents who refused to pay outstanding fees.
