Machogu Reveals Two Diseases He Fears Most
During the commemoration of World Malaria Day in Nyamira, Kenya, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu revealed the two diseases that he fears the most.
The first is malaria, which he has suffered from since he was born. He narrated how he contracted malaria in high school, causing him to miss school for a month and harm his grades.
Machogu mentioned that malaria remains a burden, particularly in the Lake region of Kenya, where it interferes with the productivity of school-going children and adults, making them unable to do the work they need to.
The second disease that Machogu fears is Covid-19. He shared that he contracted the virus a few months after it arrived in Kenya and was among the first people to be infected.
Fortunately, he was healed by God’s grace. Machogu’s statement is an indication of the fear and concern that many people have about the virus, given its devastating impact worldwide.
The event was attended by other dignitaries such as Health CS Susan Wafula and Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo. The day was organized by the Ministry of Health through the Division of National Malaria Programme, which provided an opportunity for the country to reflect on the past achievements and challenges and plan for the future.
The theme for this year’s World Malaria Day, “Time to deliver zero malaria: Invest, innovate, implement,” underscores the urgent need for action and investment to achieve zero malaria illnesses and deaths. Western Kenya and Nyanza regions are particularly prone to malaria, and access to health facilities is a problem.
In Kenya, there are an estimated 3.5 million new clinical cases and 10,700 deaths each year. According to the Center for Disease and Control Prevention, those living in Western Kenya are at a higher risk of contracting malaria.
Machogu’s statement highlights the importance of disease prevention and management in Kenya, especially malaria and Covid-19. The government and other stakeholders must invest in health infrastructure, innovation, and implementation of prevention and management strategies to combat these diseases.
It is crucial to ensure that individuals have access to quality healthcare services and education to promote healthy living and prevent the spread of diseases.
