Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu, has promised to explore the possibility of establishing a public university in Nyamira County after consultations with local leaders to determine its location.

Speaking at the World Malaria Day celebrations in Nyamira County, Machogu noted that the establishment of a university in the county would be a significant milestone and a good investment in the region. He assured residents that his ministry is working tirelessly to improve the quality of education in the country.

Additionally, Machogu pledged to expedite the upgrade of the Ekerubo Gietai Technical Training Institute to a national polytechnic. This move will help enhance the technical skills of students and provide them with the necessary knowledge to pursue various careers.

Machogu also urged stakeholders to join hands and work together to ensure that the education of Kenyan children is a success. Despite the challenges facing the education sector, the government is committed to streamlining and improving the sector, Machogu said.

He expressed his appreciation for the good grades achieved by students in last year’s examinations, which he said motivated the government to invest more in education.

Education is a critical sector in Kenya, and the government is committed to ensuring that all children have access to quality education. Establishing a public university in Nyamira County and upgrading the Ekerubo Gietai Technical Training Institute to a national polytechnic will go a long way in enhancing access to higher education in the region.

“We are working day and night to ensure the education of our children is improved through providing the necessary support to offer a bright future for our children,” Machogu said.

This move will help bridge the gap between the demand for higher education and the limited spaces available in universities across the country.
