Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has established a group to prepare transitional guidelines for Grade 6 students to Junior Secondary school.

Wednesday, following the release of the KCPE 2022 results, Machogu announced that the committee will draft guidelines to enable a smooth transition from primary school to junior secondary school.

The committee will also assist effective leadership and management of junior secondary schools and promote consistency in the execution of the curriculum, including teaching, learning, and assessment, for junior secondary schools.

In addition, the committee will guarantee;

The provision of adequate and efficient infrastructure and an environment conducive to learning for all students, including those with special needs and/or impairments.

The supply of enough and well-trained human resources to facilitate the delivery of curriculum for junior high school.

Outline the roles and duties of important players in the implementation of junior high school’s numerous components.

Machogu highlighted that KPSEA tests will not be utilized to determine learners’ placement in Junior secondary school, but that the KPSEA report will be incorporated into the process of tracking students’ development.

The CS guaranteed that the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) has issued the curriculum designs and instructional resources for use at the junior secondary school level, ensuring that there are no transitional gaps.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will publish the KPSEA evaluation report on January 16.

Wednesday, during the release of KCPE 2022 results, KNEC CEO David Njengere announced that the KPSEA examination results will be presented in three separate reports.

“The report on KPSEA will be at three levels. There will be a report on individual learners for the summative assessment, there will be a school specific report and there will be a national report on school based and summative assessments,” Njengere said

Njengere explained that the decision was influenced by the recommendations of the Presidential Working Group on Education and the fact that KPSEA will no longer be used to place students in junior secondary schools.

The report will also provide input to education stakeholders on areas for intervention and indicate the proportion of learners at each performance level per subject.

The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development will use the report to implement the rollout of CBC in its entirety.
