Machogu Addresses Delayed Promotions of Acting Deputy Principals by TSC

Machogu expressed the government’s commitment to transforming the education sector, citing the recruitment of a historic 56,000 new teachers in primary and secondary schools this year under President William Ruto’s leadership.

In response to delayed promotions of acting deputy principals, Education CS Ezekiel Machogu has said that TSC is aware of the problem and will shortly issue a statement to assist institutions with insufficient personnel.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu attended the 28th graduation ceremony for Moi Teachers Training College in Baringo, where he addressed concerns raised by local leaders regarding teacher shortages.

Senator William Cheptumo and other leaders estimated a shortage of over 2,000 teachers in both primary and secondary schools across the county’s seven sub-counties.

Cheptumo bemoaned the delayed promotions of acting deputy principals, who, in his opinion, could help fill vacancies in specific institutions in the county.

He was accompanied by Woman Representative Florence Jematia and Baringo Central Member of Parliament Joshua Kandie.

“We are requesting TSC to conduct interviews for deputy principals who have been in an acting capacity for a very long time in order for them to get promotion so that we can have substantive deputies in our schools,” he said.

Jematia stated, “We must ensure that all amenities in our schools are well maintained because they do not belong to us alone but to future generations.”

Baringo Central Member of Parliament Joshua Kandie urged both levels of government to work together to enhance the infrastructure of local educational institutions, noting that some were in deplorable condition.

He emphasized the need for students to study in a conducive environment.

This, he said, requires providing support in every possible way. The ultimate goal is to help them achieve their educational objectives.
