Mitamisyi villagers in Kitui’s Kyuso sub-county have requested Education CS George Magoha to transfer the principal of St Hillary Mitamisyi Secondary School, Scholar Omangi.
The 136 students at the mixed day and boarding school have walked out until something is done. Only teachers and a few staff members were seen in the school compound on Monday.
The principal and her deputy were not present, and the teachers who were present were unwilling to speak to the media. There were no security guards and the school gate remained locked.
The Star reports that the school compound was overgrown with grass from a distance, and two dormitories within the compound were isolated.
Residents reported that 14 Form 4 students who had remained at the school had returned home.
Since last Wednesday, there has been no learning. Ngomeni MCA Eliud Nding’uri, whose jurisdiction the school falls under, said parents had vowed not to send their children back until Omangi was transferred.
He suggested that Magoha step in. Nding’uri stated that the parents were tired of the principal’s management style. He stated that when Omangi fired the board of management teachers, parents were outraged.
“I have reached out to the education authorities at the county level to seek help and save our school from imminent death to no avail. We are now seeking CS Magoha to help us,” the MCA said.
However, Stephen Mulandi, the Kyuso sub-county director of education, stated that the problem at the school was being addressed. He stated that TSC had decided to transfer Omangi from the school.
“All plans are at an advanced stage. TSC temporarily halted the transfer to avoid interfering with the process of administering the KCSE examination. Once the exam is over the principal will be transferred, he said.
