List of Universities Approved to Offer Law Courses – 10 Still Pending.

The Council of Legal Education has published a list of all Kenyan universities that have been approved to offer law courses, including those that are still awaiting approval.

According to a notice published in the local dailies on Tuesday, June 28, only two institutions have been approved to offer a Masters in Law program.

Strathmore University will be reviewed in November 2024, and Mount Kenya University’s period has been extended until March 2026.

12 universities will provide Three institutions will offer the Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) Diploma in Law. Ten other institutions’ licenses are still pending, and one failed to meet the criteria as of June 30, 2022.

In the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) category, Egerton University School of Law’s license was extended until June 2026, Kabarak University’s license was extended until June 2026, and Africa Nazarene University’s license was extended until December 2025.

Chuka University, Moi University, and the University of Nairobi School of Law – Parklands campus all had their licenses extended until December 2025.

Umma University will continue to offer LL.B courses until September 2025, while Kisii University and the University of Embu will continue to do so until April 2024.

Daystar University School of Law – Valley Road Campus (July 2023), Mt Kenya University School of Law – Parklands Campus (July 2023), and the University of Nairobi School of Law – Kisumu Campus were also approved (2023).

The three institutions authorized to offer a Diploma in Law are the Kenya Institute of Management, Kisii University School of Law, and Mt Kenya University – Parklands Campus.

Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) has submitted an application to renew its licenses to offer Bachelor of Laws, Masters of Laws, and Diploma in Law.
The same was true for JKUAT’s Bachelor of Laws program and a proposed Masters of Laws program.

The Kenya School of Law (Diploma in Law – Para Legal Studies), Maseno University (Proposed Bachelor of Laws), and Strathmore University (Bachelor of Laws) were also under consideration.

Licenses to offer Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi – Mombasa Campus and Kenyatta University – Parklands Campus were also up for review.

However, one private institution did not renew its license.
