List of All Universities Approved to Offer Law Courses in Kenya
The Council of Legal Education released a list of all universities in Kenya that have been permitted to offer law courses, including those that are currently awaiting permission.
In a Gazette Notice published on Friday, the council granted permission for four universities to offer Master’s in Law programs.
Strathmore Law School’s license is valid until November 19, 2024, and Mount Kenya University’s School of Law’s license expires on March 23, 2026.
On June 20, 2028, the accreditation bodies will review the Faculty of Law at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa and the School of Law at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

The approval encompasses 17 colleges that will continue to offer the Bachelor of Laws degree program.
Daystar University School of Law Valley Road Campus, MKU School of Law Parklands Campus, University of Nairobi Faculty of Law Kisumu Campus, Kisii University School of Law, University of Embu School of Law, and Umma University School of Law are just some of the approved institutions.
Others are; Africa Nazarene University School of Law, Chuka University Faculty of Law, Moi University School of Law, Uon Faculty of Law – Parklands Campus, and Egerton University Faculty of Law.
The list also featured Kabarak University School of Law, Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) Faculty of Law, Strathmore Law School, Maseno University School of Law, and South Eastern University.
MKU School of Law, Parklands Campus, Kisii University School of Law, Kenya Institute of Management, and CUEA Faculty of Law all hold recognition to offer a Diploma in Law.
Awaiting approval
Daystar University School of Law has completed the application to renew its licenses for offering Bachelor of Laws degrees. The Council inspected the institution on October 19, 2023, and approval is pending.
The same was true for MKU School of Law, Parklands Campus, for both Bachelor of Laws and Diploma in Law.
Kenya School of Law’s application for offering a Diploma in Law (Para Legal Studies) is still pending approval by the Council following an inspection on November 1, 2023.
Both Riara Law School and Kenyatta University School of Law have licenses to offer Bachelor of Laws programs.
