Laikipia Students Receive Scholarships.Secondary education scholarships have been awarded to 125 bright students from low-income families in Laikipia North Sub County.Speaking to KNA after distributing Sh.1.7 million in cheques to Ngenia Primary School beneficiaries, Laikipia North Member of Parliament Sarah Lekorere said that 40 of the 125 students had their fees paid in full, while the rest received partial scholarships.“Due to the persistent drought, parents had a difficult time enrolling their children in school.” “Those offered full scholarships are the most vulnerable, such as orphans,” said the legislator, adding that the scholarships were also a form of motivation for the region’s top students who performed admirably in the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results. The MP also stated that the scholarships were funded by the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and were supported by local wildlife conservancies.“It had been a joint effort in enhancing education matters. My driving force is to make Laikipia North stable on development and security issues. We must educate the residents to achieve that,” said the MP.She claimed that the region’s ongoing conflicts are the result of a lack of education.“I believe that when children get educated, we will be able to solve conflicts and tribal hatred and at the same time enhance development,” noted Lekorere. She concluded by urging the residents, the vast majority of whom are pastoralists, to educate girls and reject retrogressive culture.Jackson Nakerer Echom, a scholarship recipient, stated that the scholarship will allow him to complete his high school education, which he feared he would have missed due to a lack of funds. He received 341 points in the KCPE and plans to attend Good Shepherds Minor Seminary in Maralal.Laikipia Students Receive Scholarships
