KUSNET Pushes for Approval of TSC Budget For Teacher Salary Increment
The Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (KUSNET) is calling on Members of Parliament (MPs) to approve the proposed Sh56 billion budget for the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The union is urging MPs to approve the budget before the next budget is read in April so that the TSC can meet the demands pertaining to teacher salaries.
The TSC had proposed the budget to cater to a salary increment for teachers, and the approval of the budget would enable teachers to get a pay rise in accordance with collective bargaining agreements.
KUSNET Secretary General, James Torome, stated that it was time for Kenyan MPs to approve the Sh56 billion proposed by the TSC to enhance the implementation of the agreement.
He emphasized the need for MPs to discuss the matter officially in Parliament and not in roadside declarations and other talks about the approval of the budget, which are not helping the situation.
In addition, Torome, accompanied by KUSNET Vice Chairman Daniel Yator and the National Trustee Jackson Odindo, asked the government not to privatize learning institutions. He explained that privatization would make education unaffordable to many Kenyans.
KUSNET’s call for the approval of the budget comes at a time when teachers in Kenya are grappling with low salaries and poor working conditions.
The union is keen to ensure that teachers’ welfare is improved, and the approval of the proposed budget would be a significant step towards achieving this goal.
The proposed budget would enable the TSC to meet the increasing demand for teachers’ salaries and, in turn, boost their morale, leading to improved productivity.
As such, KUSNET is urging MPs to fast-track the approval process and ensure that the proposed budget is approved before the next budget is read in April.
