KUPPET Warns of KCSE Disruption Over Munyuki Secondary School Principal’s Murder.

The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has issued a stern warning that the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations in Kakamega County will be disrupted if the government fails to act over the alleged murder of a secondary school principal.

The Munyuki Secondary School principal who had gone missing for several days was found dead in the Kipkaren River on Saturday November 8, 2025. Initial reports indicate that the death was staged to look like an accident but evidence suggests the principal was tortured before being dumped in the river.

KUPPET Kakamega County Chairman Johnston Wabuti said all school principals in the region will be withdrawn from KCSE examination centers until the perpetrators are arrested. “The principal was found in the river and the body was badly mutilated. If there is no report on who did it we will be forced to disrupt exams in this region,” Wabuti said.

Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula said security agencies should arrest anyone found responsible, regardless of their social or political status. “The teacher was killed and dumped in the river. We need a thorough investigation and if anyone is found guilty, whether a politician or another senior person, they should be arrested immediately,” Savula said.

KUPPET members accused the government of taking too long to address the matter saying security agencies should expedite investigations to prevent recurrence. “Teachers’ lives matter. If this was another high ranking official, arrests would have been made already. The slow process in this case shows lack of urgency because the victim was a teacher,” a union member said.

This comes after a lecturer from Garissa Teachers College was killed on Saturday October 11, 2025 in Garissa Town. Reports indicate the 27-year-old lecturer was attacked by three unknown people while on a motorcycle errand and was pronounced dead at Garissa County Referral Hospital.

Community members including boda boda operators and teachers protested on Monday October 13, 2025 demanding justice for the deceased lecturer. “We are losing young teachers and boda boda operators. This teacher was not married and had no children but was very diligent in his duties. We want justice for teachers,” a protester said.

KUPPET is demanding immediate and transparent investigations into both cases, saying teachers’ security is key to national exams and overall education personnel welfare.
