KUPPET Wants TSC to Hire 30,000 JSS Teachers to Handle Grade 8 Students
If JSS continues in Primary School, the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) wants the government to hire 30,000 teachers to handle the Grade 8 implementation.
The teachers union claims that ignoring this critical stage will continue the cycle of inadequate education quality and underutilization of students’ potential.

“The employment of more teachers or interns, especially if they decide to maintain them in primary school, is inevitable,” she said.
One of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers’ main issues is the severe shortage of trained instructors in junior secondary schools.

According to KUPPET, many Junior School teachers are either teaching for the first time and need time to adjust, or they lack subject knowledge in the areas they are tasked with handling due to a dearth of teachers.
According to Akelo Misori, the union’s Secretary General, lack of enough teachers has resulted to a chaotic learning environment.
