KUPPET Rejects Proposals to Transfer TSC’s Responsibilities to Other Agencies
The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) opposes a number of the recommendations made by the Presidential Task Force on education reforms.
They assert that these proposals could diminish the Teachers Service Commission’s (TSC) responsibilities and impede the employment rights of educators.
During the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Nandi South, KUPPET national chairman Omboko Milemba and Secretary General Akelo Misori asserted the need to eliminate certain proposals.

Milemba asserted that TSC has played a crucial role in employment and supervision within the education sector and that any attempt to restrict its authority would violate the rights of teachers.
According to Milemba, there is need to thoroughly examine certain recommendations, particularly those that interfere with the TSC. He stated that education reforms should strengthen existing institutions rather than undermine their functions.
Regarding the management and supervision of teachers, he stated that certain proposals had been implemented without consulting stakeholders in education.
Omboko stated that they cannot allow the transfer of TSC roles to other government agencies.

He mentioned that there have been suggestions to have county commissioners and provincial administrators take over the role of overseeing teachers in schools, but they oppose such changes.
Last week, the National Assembly expressed concerns about the implementation of education reforms without the consent of Parliament.
Omboko added that there is a need to reconsider the laws affecting institutional structures, and they will push for a parliamentary review to ensure the new education policies are effective for all.
He emphasized the importance of considering teacher welfare to establish an efficient and conducive working environment.
