KUPPET Boss Rescued From Irate Teachers for Backing 2023 Controversial Finance Bill
Omboko Milemba, national chairman of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), was rescued from secondary school teachers in Homa Bay County who confronted him for his support of the Finance Bill 2023 in the National Assembly.
Milemba, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Emuhaya Constituency, joined a secondary school teachers’ athletics tournament on Sunday evening at Tom Mboya University in Homa Bay town with the union’s Secretary General Akelo Misori and other Kuppet officials.
They were greeted cordially by the teachers, who appeared enthusiastic about the tournament.
Four minutes later, the master of ceremonies invited Milemba to deliver his opening remarks, which would set the stage for the championship football game.
The commotion began when the KUPPET leader introduced himself by stating that he voted “yes” for the Finance Bill.
Upon hearing the statement, a group of educators began to hoot. Milemba disregarded the commotion and continued to explain the importance of the Finance Bill 2023 to the nation’s development.
His remarks fell on deaf ears as the teachers accused him of betrayal for supporting the controversial bill.
Misori scolded the teachers for their unbecoming behavior after more than fifteen minutes of unrest.
On his way away from the podium, some instructors threw stones and other objects at him.
In an effort to defend Milemba’s boss, one of his bodyguards drew two pistols and pointed them at the teachers to prevent them from throwing stones.
Misori and Yogo condemned the incident and argued that the instructors’ intolerance of Milemba was unacceptable.
