All 173,345 students who scored a grade of C+ or higher on the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination last year have been guaranteed admission to public universities.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Universities and College Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), Dr. Agnes Wahome, stated that there is sufficient space for all KCSE students.

“I know there are a lot of concerns about whether we have enough space for students who qualified to join universities. No student will be locked out and there should be no cause for alarm,” she said on Saturday at Kangaru Boys High School in Embu County during a mentorship conference for youths from the region.

She encouraged the candidates to apply to the courses of their choosing at universities without reluctance.

“We have the capacity to admit all those who met the university entry points, they should start submitting their applications,” she said.

Dr. Wahome urged candidates who do not wish to enroll in universities to enroll in technical colleges and enroll in diploma programs.

“We have so many colleges where the students pursue courses which can help them realise their dreams,” she said.

The chief executive officer urged parents against forcing their children to enroll in uninteresting courses.

She stated, “Children should be left to choose and pursue courses they want.

Cecily Mbarire, the governor of Embu, has pledged to award universities to deserving college and university candidates.

"We are constituting bursary committees in all the wards. We want even children from very poor backgrounds to access education,” she said.

For a prosperous future, the governor recommended individuals entering universities and colleges to take their education seriously.

“Male and female candidates should not cohabit when in school, this is time to learn but not cohabit, there is time for everything,” she added.

Dr. Jamleck Muturi, chairman of the Teachers Service Commission, recommended candidates to avoid drugs.

“Drugs waste away the young people and should not be used at all,” he said.

Gitonga Mukunji, MP for Manyatta, and Nephat Muriuki, MP for Mbeere South, advised students to pursue technical studies.

“We have technical vocational learning institutions across the country which have plumbing, electrical and masonry courses. The learners should focus on these courses if they want to excel in life,” said Mr Muriuki.
