KUCCPS Expresses Concerns Over Course Applications by Grade D & E Students
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has raised concerns regarding applications from students who achieved Grade D and E in the 2023 KCSE.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the placement body noted a disparity between the number of applications received and the total number of students who took the exams. Particularly noteworthy is the fact that the majority of 2023 KCSE candidates scored Grades D and below, with 494,317 out of 895,533 students falling into this category.

Consequently, KUCCPS has urged these candidates to capitalize on the extended application deadline for admission to various tertiary institutions, which now stands at February 26.
Addressing the situation, KUCCPS emphasized the need for candidates to consider Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses, which currently have a lower volume of applications. According to KUCCPS, there is a notable inclination towards degree programs among applicants compared to TVET courses.
Encouraging students with grades ranging from C to E, particularly those with D+ and E, the statement advised them to explore TVET opportunities and seek assistance from their nearest TVET institution if needed.

Furthermore, students facing challenges in the application process can seek support from various Huduma Centres located across the country. The application portal, opened by KUCCPS on February 8, facilitates the selection of courses and universities by students. Offerings include degrees, diplomas, and certificates, catering to diverse educational pursuits.
To guide applicants through the process, KUCCPS provided instructions for accessing and utilizing the application portal. Applicants are directed to the KUCCPS student portal (www.student.kuccps.net) where they can navigate to the “Application/Revision” section.
Here, they input the relevant program codes and await confirmation of meeting minimum requirements before submission. This step-by-step guidance aims to streamline the application process and minimize errors for applicants.
