KUCCPS Concerned Over Low Uptake of Eligible Students To Universities

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has lamented the low number of eligible candidates from the Northern region who are placed in universities and colleges.

During a tour of the Garissa Huduma Centre, KUCCUPS CEO Dr. Agnes Wahome stated that most students in the region may be unaware of placement options.

Dr. Wahome stated that they will work with County Commissioners and local administrators to ensure that they reach every student who needs to further their studies while announcing KUCCPS’s partnership with Huduma Centres across the country to offer placement services.

Similarly, KUCCPS has collaborated with the ICT authority to provide free internet access in Huduma centers, allowing students to access online services and submit applications by June 2nd.

Dr. Wahome stated that students who took the KCSE in 2021 will be placed in 70 private and public universities, as well as 190 tertiary institutions such as The Kenya Wildlife College, Marine Academy in Mombasa, Kenya Institute of Mass Communication, and Kenya Railways, among others.

The CEO encourages those with lower grade point averages to apply for courses that are readily available to them.

In other news, children with disabilities throughout the Coast region will benefit from Inclusive Education through a three-year holistic approach led by Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in collaboration with the Kenyan government.

The Kesho-Kenya project, implemented by a local NGO in Kilifi County, focuses on bridging the awareness gap and the gap between inclusive education policies and their implementation.

Evans Odhiambo, Executive Director of Kesho-Kenya, stated that the project will be able to evaluate inclusive education policies in the implementing countries as well as identify and address implementation challenges.
