KUCCPS Addresses Concerns over Unavailability of 2022 Cut-Off Points

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has clarified that the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates should use the 2021 cut-off points for university placement applications.

This clarification comes after applicants expressed their concerns about the absence of the 2022 cut-off points on the KUCCPS website.

KUCCPS emphasized that students should rely on the previous year’s cut-off points as a reference for their applications until the new cut-off points are released.

The agency stated that the 2022 cut-off points would be made available after the placement process is completed.

It was found that KUCCPS had published the 2021 cut-off points for all universities and courses on its website.

For example, the University of Nairobi had a cut-off point of 42.348 for a law degree, while Kenyatta University’s cut-off point was 42.036 for the same program.

Maseno University’s cut-off point for a medicine and surgery degree was 44.143, and Egerton University offered the course at a cut-off of 43.749 points.

The degree programs are categorized into 20 clusters for both public and private universities. Students can access the 2021 cut-off points by visiting students.kuccps.net/programmes/ or logging into the student portal and selecting the programs option.

Additionally, students can find their calculated cluster points and expected subject grades for different courses on their student portal.

However, KUCCPS specified that only students with a minimum grade of C+ would be eligible to apply for degree programs in universities.

According to the 2022 KCSE results, only 173,345 students achieved a grade of C+ and above.

The KUCCPS application portal was officially launched by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.

In addition to providing the cost of courses at various universities, KUCCPS introduced new features to the platform.

In his speech, the Education Cabinet Secretary encouraged candidates who scored below a C+ grade to consider applying for opportunities in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

He mentioned that there are over 500,000 opportunities in TVET institutions and that efforts are being made to establish connections with other countries such as Germany and Hungary.

To ensure accessibility, Machogu directed KUCCPS to collaborate with Huduma Centre to facilitate nationwide applications from students in all parts of the country.
