KUCCPS: 90% Of Qualified Candidates Apply For Varsity Slots As Deadline Looms
A day before the application deadline, more than 90% of students who qualified for university in the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination had applied for degree courses.
By Thursday, 128,762 of the 144,516 Kenyan citizens with mean grades of C+ and above had submitted applications to the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
“We are pleased with the degree applications as 90pc of the eligible candidates have already applied. We encourage the few who have not yet applied to do so by tomorrow so as not to miss government sponsorship,” said Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome, the Chief Executive Officer at KUCCPS.
Furthermore, with over 385,000 and over 15,000 vacancies available in TVET institutions and primary teacher training colleges, respectively, KUCCPS is urging those eligible to apply quickly as there are not enough vacancies to accommodate everyone.
According to KUCCPS, the TVET and TTC applications are aimed at eligible candidates from the 2021 KCSE class as well as those from the years 2000 to 2020.
Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome, Chief Executive Officer of KUCCPS. encouraged Form Four students to apply for diploma, certificate, and artisan courses before the application system closes so that they do not miss out on government sponsorship.
On June 14, KUCCPS opened its portal for the third and final revision of options for government-sponsored students’ placement in universities, public TVET, and Teacher Training Colleges.
The third revision, which closes on Friday, is aimed at KCSE class of 2021 applicants who did not secure any of the courses they applied for in the first and second revisions of choices, as well as youths aged 2000 to 2020 looking for TVET opportunities.
KUCCPS will complete the placement process and release the results before the end of June to allow successful applicants to prepare for and join universities and colleges in the new academic year beginning September.
During the official release of the placement results, all applicants who have provisionally secured a course will be informed of their respective courses and universities or colleges.
In the 2021 KCSE Examination, 1,138 (0.14pc) candidates received an overall Grade A, compared to 893 (0.12pc) candidates in 2020.
