KNUT Applauds Ruto’s 10% Teachers Salary Increase and Promotions
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has applauded President Dr. William Ruto’s initiative for a 10% salary increase and promotions for teachers across the nation.
On Wednesday, Teso branch union Executive Secretary Ekasiba Geoffrey addressed the press at the KNUT offices in Amagoro. He claimed that during this challenging economic time, teachers appreciated the offer and felt accepted and valued by the current government.
Ekasiba praised the president’s action as timely and expected it to enhance teacher morale. He credited President Ruto for the government’s focus on addressing teacher-related matters like salary, employment, and promotion.
The KNUT leader noted that teachers are willing to accept partial improvements rather than waiting for complete solutions. He urged the President to consider providing the remaining 50% of the salary increase once the economy becomes more stable.
“As educators, we are better off with half a loaf than a whole loaf. When the economy stabilizes, we implore the President to grant teachers the remaining 50 percent salary increase,” he continued.
Ekasiba advised teachers to be grateful for the meager offer made by the national government and urged them to redouble their efforts to raise education standards in the region.
