KNEC Warns Schools Against Registering 2023 KCPE, KCSE Ghost Students
The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has issued a warning to schools regarding ghost student registration for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
The CEO of KNEC, David Njengere, stated in a circular on January 25th that schools should not register students who don’t attend their classes.
Njengere emphasized that students must be bonafide and attending the school they are registered in to be eligible for KNEC exams.
The practice of taking classes in one school and sitting exams in another is prohibited.
KNEC warned schools that registering ghost students constitutes an examination malpractice and can result in sanctions, including de-registration of the school as a KNEC exam center.
KNEC has limited the number of candidates per exam center to 30 and requires independent candidates to be more than 5 to be registered with a school.
The government will pay exam fees for public and private institutions, but re-sitters, non-citizens, private candidates registered in Sub-County Private Exam Centers, and prisoners will have to pay their own fees.
The fees for KCPE are Ksh800 and for KCSE, they range from Ksh5,000 to Ksh5,800.
Re-sitters for form four exams will pay Ksh3,100 to Ksh6,300, depending on the number of exams they sit. The registration period runs from February 1st to March 30th.
