KNEC Refutes Allegations of 2024 KCSE Results Mix-Up
The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has firmly denied allegations that the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results were mishandled during the marking process.
In a statement issued on Thursday, January 9, KNEC addressed a viral social media post claiming the council intended to release the results randomly.
The post, purportedly authored by an examiner involved in the marking process, alleged that KCSE papers had been mixed up during marking. The alleged examiner further claimed that KNEC was preparing to distribute the results without verifying their accuracy.
The controversial post also suggested that parents could easily alter their children’s KCSE grades to an A (plain). These assertions sparked public concern on social media, prompting KNEC to issue a clarification.
KNEC dismissed the allegations as baseless, responding to social media users who had called for transparency. The clarification coincided with the formal release of the 2024 KCSE results by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba at Mtihani House in Nairobi.
KCSE Results Summary
While announcing the results, CS Ogamba revealed that 1,693 candidates had achieved Grade A, an increase from the 1,216 recorded in 2023. Additionally, 246,391 candidates scored Grade C+ and above, while 476,889 candidates received a Grade C-.
The CS emphasized the need for accuracy and transparency in the results, urging students and parents to access their results through the official portal results.knec.ac.ke. He instructed users to enter the candidate’s index number and one of the registered names to view the results.

Through its statement, KNEC sought to reassure the public of the integrity of its examination processes. It reiterated its commitment to upholding accuracy and fairness in delivering credible results for all candidates.
