KNEC Launches Toll-Free Number to Support KCSE Candidates with Access Issues

KNEC Launches Toll-Free Number to Support KCSE Candidates with Access Issues.

On Thursday, January 9, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba unveiled the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results at Mitihani House in Nairobi.

The results were made available through a secure link on the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) website, allowing both schools and candidates to access them.

Candidates were instructed to visit the KNEC website, input their index numbers, and click on the “view your results” button to instantly receive their breakdown.

While this process worked smoothly for many, others encountered issues when attempting to access their results due to a technical glitch that KNEC had not yet resolved.

In response to the difficulties faced by some candidates, CS Ogamba introduced two toll-free numbers—0800724900 and 0800721410—to help those struggling to access their results. He encouraged anyone experiencing issues to reach out to KNEC for assistance.

KCSE Performance Overview

Regarding the overall performance, the results showed notable gender disparities. Girls performed better in 10 subjects, while boys outperformed their female counterparts in 23 subjects.

In total, 1,693 of the 962,512 candidates who sat for the exam achieved straight A’s. Furthermore, 246,391 students earned a C+ grade or higher, which qualifies them for university admission.

However, the ministry reported that 48,331 candidates received an E grade, and 840 students had their results cancelled due to allegations of exam malpractice.

CS Ogamba suggested that the increase in the number of top performers could be attributed to the recently implemented grading system. This slight rise in high achievers has sparked discussions about the effectiveness of the changes.

KPSEA Results Release

Additionally, the KNEC had earlier released the 2024 KPSEA results for Grade Six candidates on Tuesday, January 7, in the evening.

Schools whose students participated in the assessments were advised to download the reports from the CBA portal. However, some teachers voiced frustration, stating that the results displayed on the website appeared to be from the 2023 assessment, not the 2024 one.

This move to introduce support for candidates facing access issues reflects KNEC’s commitment to ensuring that all students can retrieve their results without hindrance.
