KNEC Headquarters Relocated To New Mitihani House Constructed for 35 Years
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) on Monday, July 17, has officially moved its headquarters from Dennis Pritt Road to a new building that was under construction for 35 years.
The council stated in a statement that it would occupy the Ksh3 billion New Mitihani House building on Popo Road in South C.
KNEC also stated that the Dennis Pritt-based office will remain in operation, but that the new headquarters will handle all official functions.
“This is to inform our esteemed customers and stakeholders that we have moved KNEC Head Office and all our services to the New Mitihani House, Popo Road, South C,” read the statement in part.
The construction of the New Mitihani House began in 1986, with a budget of Ksh248.9 million at the time.
The value, which has since risen 12-fold to Ksh3 billion, was first highlighted by the Office of the Auditor General due to high contractor turnover.
It is estimated that over eight contractors took over at some point during its construction while the council struggled financially.
According to a KNEC dispatch, the new building has secure executive office blocks to meet its growing needs.
“The New Mitihani House is the landmark of the council located along Mombasa Road, South C. The project encompass high rise secure executive office blocks built in an area renowned for its tranquility, good natural environment with easy access to social amenities,” the brief read in part.
The project features three caramel towers with a maroon-colored top, a tortilla brown exterior, and a mix of awning and cottage windows.
The council also has two other locations: Likoni Road in the Industrial Area and Mitihani House in South C.

Section 10 of the KNEC Act No. 29 of 2012 outlines the Council’s mandate.
KNEC is responsible for, among other things, setting and maintaining examination standards, conducting public academic, technical, and other national examinations in Kenya at the basic and tertiary levels, and awarding certificates or diplomas to successful candidates.
