Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) Chief Executive David Njengere has described the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) education system as the best for Kenyan children.
Dr Njengere questioned 8-4-4, claiming that the examination-based system had condemned many children to failure in life. He stated that CBC prefers every child whose talent will be nurtured without examination.
Njengere stated that after discovering that the 8-4-4 system was keeping more than 500,000 children from participating in proper nation-building, the government decided to use CBC, as is done in most developed countries now.
“You cannot have sustainable development in a country where others are being excluded from participating in the development of the country just because they did not pass an examination,” he said.
According to Njengere, the main issue has been a large percentage of citizens who have been left out due to failing examinations because no one has given them the opportunity to develop their talent.
“We want an education system favourable to every child,” he said.
Njengere advised teachers who had students who had transferred from other schools to work with the sub-county education director to ensure that every child in grades 4, 5, and 6 are registered with Knec on time.
“If there is a child who was not captured because of transfer you must send their results through director sub-county,” he said.

Magoha stated during the 17th Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association Annual Delegates Conference in Mombasa that all schools will receive their funds when schools reopen next week.
